There are several reasons puppies fart a lot. Below are the common reasons.

1. Eating unhealthy food items
Eating unhealthy food items
The diet you are feeding your puppy from their food to their treats can be the reason for their excessive gas.
Food that is rich in carbohydrates can be the culprit. Most vets are not in the favor of recommending carbohydrate-oriented diets.
Dairy and fiber-rich foods should be avoided because pups lack enzymes to breakdown fattening food. Fermentation and gas happen because of the undigested fiber in their bodies.
You can give your puppy a probiotic to help boost digestion.
2. In their genes
Some breeds are more prone to gas than compared to other breeds.
Bulldogs, pugs, and boxers with flat faces and short noses tend to swallow too much air.
This air consumption along with food becomes the cause of gas. Also, bulldogs face too many digestive issues and their body is not carbohydrate friendly.
This is the case where you feel helpless to solve the farting issue in your puppy. All you can do is keep your dog active to boost up the digestive system.
3. Your pup is overweight
Being overweight is not just a human-related issue, but excess weight also causes bad health in dogs.
When your dog is not at its ideal weight, it will be more prone to gas problems. An overweight puppy might be less active which means slow digestion and hence gas fills up.
Solve this issue by keeping your dog active and forcing him to exercise regularly. In this way, you can treat other bowel issues along with excessive gas.
4. Eating too fast
Puppies just can’t wait to inhale all of their food. If they consume food too fast it can cause gas. With big food bites and fast eating, they swallow air which fills up their bowels with gas.
You can give your dog a bowl that is made specifically for fast eaters. They are available at any local pet store.
5. Suffering from a medical issue
Sometimes, excessive gas can be a sign that your puppy is suffering from some medical issue.
Inflammatory bowel diseases can give dogs gas issues. Some dog breeds are more likely to suffer from medical issues related to their digestive system.

6. Presence of parasites
Intestinal parasites are a common cause of puppy flatulence. The presence of parasites can be proved by the sample of stool.
Visit a vet to address this issue. For my puppy, I had to do 3 rounds of deworming pills.

Not all human food is good for dogs. For example, dogs cannot eat onions. Some human food can cause gas in dogs.
Homemade dog food is a great option to help decrease gas in your puppy.
